Methodology

Canada Fame connects official statistics, municipal applications and source-reviewed court records. Each measure keeps its original geography, unit and observation date. The website build date is not the observation date.

How a record becomes public

  1. Prefer court, receiver, monitor and official statistical sources.
  2. Keep allegations, applications, orders and subsequent outcomes distinct.
  3. Never turn an unknown field into zero, an inferred date or an estimated address.
  4. Show observation dates independently of website build dates.
  5. Disclose any commercial interest next to the affected coverage.
  6. Keep unpublished research files out of public assets and generated browser payloads.

Map coverage and coordinates

The map supports an Ontario-wide view; project data currently covers the City of Toronto. One point represents a planning application, combining address rows by application number. Closed and historical applications are included in the dataset. Coordinates are converted from official NAD27 MTM Zone 10 coordinates using the Canadian NTv2 datum grid. Points are approximate address locations, not property boundaries.

What the numbers do not mean

An application is not proof that a project is approved, under construction, for sale or insolvent. Active building files include applications, permits and revisions. Housing starts and completions count dwellings over a month and refer to different cohorts. Toronto CMA is larger than the City of Toronto. These quantities cannot be added or divided to infer a conversion rate.

Failures and missing values

Failed updates retain the last valid snapshot and its original observation date, with a stale or retained status. Unknown fields display a dash instead of zero. The private review queue is never published automatically. Some document hosts block automated access and require manual review.
